Chelsea defends Gallagher, accused of racism: 'The level of abuse...'

English midfielder did not greet a black child in the tunnel leading to the locker rooms and is being accused of racist behavior, which led the London club to publicly defend the player.

Chelsea has strongly condemned the "level of abuse and defamatory comments" directed at Conor Gallagher, emphasizing that such behavior is "completely unacceptable."

The club issued a statement on Wednesday in response to an incident that occurred during their match against Burnley the previous Saturday. In the incident, Gallagher, an English international midfielder, did not greet a black child who was present among the players in the tunnel leading to the locker rooms. A video capturing this moment started circulating on social media, leading to accusations of racism against Gallagher.

The statement from Chelsea acknowledges the existence of the circulating video, which they assert has been taken out of context. The club asserts that the abuse and defamatory remarks directed at Gallagher are unacceptable.

Chelsea reaffirms its commitment to diversity and inclusivity, expressing pride in being a club where individuals from all cultures, communities, and backgrounds are welcomed.

The incident has sparked discussions about racial sensitivity and discrimination in football, prompting Chelsea to address the issue publicly and stand by their player amidst the accusations. Chelsea's response underscores the importance of fostering an environment of respect and inclusion within the football community, condemning any form of discriminatory behavior.
